My Twisted Christmas Movie List

Every year, my daughter rolls her eyes as I bring up my non-traditional movie favorites for Christmas time.

Of course, I always watch the old-time greats and recent classics.  Here's my short list for the must-sees:

1) Christmas Carol - both the Alastair Sim and the George C. Scott versions

2) Miracle on 34th Street - original

3) It's a Wonderful Life

4) The Bishop's Wife

5) Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer

6) Frosty the Snowman

7) Charlie Brown Christmas

8) How the Grinch Stole Christmas

9) Christmas Vacation

10) A Christmas Story

But I also enjoy movies with non-traditional Christmas flair!  These are not family fare and will not put you in the mood, but they are fun in their own way.  Here is the list that makes my daughter cringe.

1) Die Hard - I usually only include the first and second installments on the francise

2) Lethal Weapon - again only the first two make my list.

3) Gremlins

4) Edward Scissorhands

5) Trapped in Paradise

6) The Ref

7) The Apartment

8) Lion in Winter

9) Three Days of the Condor

10) The Thin Man

Hope everyone is getting into the holiday spirit!  Have a great day!

Last Chance Sale over at Rogue Redhead Designs!

Well, it's been a ton of fun creating my very own stamps!  I met some amazing people and tried some great techniques and, hopefully, made a few nice cards.  Unfortunately, due to that pesky "real life" thing that interferes with my stamping on a regular basis, I do not have the time to properly devote to creating new designs or, to be honest, stamping much at all any more.  Thus, I made the hard decision earlier this year that Rogue Redhead would close its doors for the time being.  The last day over at the store will be November 30, 2015.

If you are interested in taking advantage of my final slashed prices, head on over to the Rogue Redhead Designs website for our final clearance before we close down!

Stamp: This N That (Rogue Redhead Designs)

The last round of price reductions has occurred!  This is as low as it goes.  After this, my family is getting Rogue Redhead plates for every present-worthy occasion!

Our doors will close on November 30, 2015.  We've already sold out of some of plates.  Sorry, Behind the Scenes, Snow Hugs and Carnival Dreams are all gone.  The rest of the stock is dwindling swiftly!

Here are some favorites of mine from each plate.

Don't forget to check out our Yard Sale area which currently has some cabinet cards on sale. Coming soon - mystery boxes from Sharon's stash o' stuff.

Bearly Father's Day

Each year, I seem to turn to the fuzzy Father's Day ambassadors from the Getting Grizzly set.  They are so fun to color and what says Dad more than a cub?

For this card, I decided to go for layer upon layer.  I started with a vanilla base and added a panel of tan designer paper (which while you cannot see it in this photo has some lovely subtle pattern) matted with chocolate cardstock.  On top of this base, I added the copic-colored image which was double matted in caramel and chocolate cardstock.  I ripped the bottom edge on both the actual image and the caramel mat.  I haven't used this look in years and, seeing how it looks, I am not sure why I stopped.

Stamps: Sitting bear and bee from Getting Grizzly and Happy Father's Day from Bits and Pieces (Rogue Redhead Designs)
Paper: Very Vanilla, Creamy Caramel and Chocolate Chip (Stampin' up); White X-Press It; scrap of tan designer paper (Sandy Lion)
Copic Markers: B00, E33, E34, E35, E40, E41, E43, and YR23

Here's wishing all the Dad's in your life a fabulous and fun Father's Day!

The Blue Ocean Awaits

I guess I was feeling a little blue today!

For this card, I started out by smooshing a piece of glossy cardstock through a mess of blue distress inks (Faded Jeans, Tumbled Glass and Broken China).  I splashed some alcohol ink onto the surface of the card ( Denim and Stream Adirondack) and then followed with splashes of blending solution.  Now that I had a liquidy mess fit to emulate the sea, I finally stepped back and let it dry.  I then stamped my Netting background from my Rogue Redhead Deisgns Just Sayin' set over top of the whole thing with Faded Jeans distress ink.

I stamped the Beach Boy from my Beach Babes collection with Tuxedo Black Memento on white cardstock.  I used an aquapainter to paint some of the distress inks onto the image to give it some tone.

I added a quote also from the Beach Babes collection.   To keep the theme nautical, I matted the quote as a flag.

Stamps: Beach Boy from Beach Babes and Netting from Just Sayin' (Rogue Redhead Designs)

Wishing you day with sunny blue skies and deep azure seas!

Budding Wishes

Today, I have an extra simple card for you.  I like to make simple cards up so that I can connect with old friends after the frigid winter has started to thaw.

Beyond easy, this layout is easy and uses up a ton of paper without having to have more than one coordinating piece.  Stamp your cosmos bud or other floral image onto the middle of white or cream cardstock and line up your sentiment and then cut your front panel out with an oval cutter or die.  I always stamp first and cut after so that I can always have the sentiment end up straight (or mostly straight).

I used a coral base and used the same color to highlight my cosmos bud.  I accented with brown matting and brown brads.  Easy-peasy!

Stamps: cosmos bud from Floriculture and sentiment from Bits and Pieces (Rogue Redhead Designs)
Paper: Cameo Coral, Chocolate Chip and Whisper White (Stampin Up); designer paper from Blush line (BasicGrey)

I will probably end up making up a ton of these to send out to friends all over.  Thankfully, Spring calms down just enough for me to get ready for the craziness of Summer!

Frosty Penguin Valentine

In case you haven't heard, we've been having a little snow here in New England.  Okay, little actually means several feet of the wintery white stuff.  Naturally, my thoughts have turned to polar bears and penguins with the arctic chill in the air.  Hence, a penguiny Valentine for this year!

They are sweet!  Of course, my pink insanity has passed and I am back to my usual non-pink and non-red Valentine's. This one is all sorts of blue - to signify that you can still have warmth of spirit in wintery climes.  Boy, is it cold!  Even my penguins have bundled up this year!

Stamps: Penguin Pair (Stampendous) and Je t'aime from Floriculture (Rogue Redhead Designs)
Paper: Night of Navy and Whisper White (Stampin' Up!) and a designer paper scrap (American Crafts) from by basket
Copic Markers: B00, B21, B23, B24, C1, C5, C7, YR02
Tools: circle cutter (Creative Memories)

Hope your day is filled with lots of love and warmth!

Circling Around Mardi Gras

With Mardi Gras around the corner (Feb 17th), I decided to get Carnival Dreams back out so that I could play along with all the fun!

For this card, I decided to have fun with the colors of Mardi Gras - gold, purple and green. I colored each of the jester hats in these colors but with different patterns. I matched my hats with three circles of scrap designer paper in the same color combination.

Kissing Cuties

I've finally broken down and made an actual pink Valentine!  Yup, I know.  Weird, right?  These two youthful sweethearts just made me cave to the popular color scheme of the holiday.  Of course, I did add some green just to keep it a little bit like me.

I wanted to really showcase these two so I kept the layout very simple!  I figured that using the Keep It Simple Stamper rule was perfect for a Kissing couple!

Stamp: couple from A Little Kiss (S.W.A.L.K. - available at Rogue Redhead Designs)
Paper: Rose Red (Stampin' Up!), White Xpress It, various pink scraps from my scrap basket
Copic Markers: E00, E02, E11, E33, E34, E35, G20, G21, G24, RV13, YR29
Tools: Circle cutter

Another Birthday for the Roguette!

This year, I decided on an image to commemorate my daughter's newly acquired skating skills.  She started lessons in March of last year and, by November, she was on the school hockey team.  Pretty cool, huh?  Gotta love a kid with a mission!

For this card, I stamped and colored the pup first and then masked off the image with a repositionable note.  I stamped the snowflakes from A Winter's Tale all around the open white area with medium blue.  Next, I sponged some light blue over the snow flakes and then sponged the medium blue around the edges of the card and the mask.  Voila!  Snow storm!  For the final step, I created the ice that the pup is gliding upon with more copic coloring.

Stamps: Ice Dance (Penny Black) and snowflakes from
Beatrix Potter's A Winter's Tale (available at Rogue Redhead Designs)
I am entering this card in the following challenges:

Brown Sugar - Anything Goes

Card Mania Challenge - Add Some Red

Craft Your Passion - Anything Goes

Hope everyone is having fun in the snow!  Here in New England, I think we would rather have slightly less snow!
