Snow Bunnies

Vintage and Christmas just seem to be a natural match.  I have a soft spot for the Beatrix Potter bunnies so I often turn to them at this time of year.

I got obsessed on Saturday with using the stencils I have acquired over the past few years.  I decided to add a random shape and pattern to my one-layer card and build a card around it.  The block below shows the pattern I chose.  I used a light green distress ink for the bas and then used darker green for the stenciled portions.

In the end, I ended up with lots of luscious olive and sage greens.  Gotta love green!

North Pole Greetings

With the arctic chill in the air, no wonder I started thinking about polar bears!

I had my stencils out the other day...causing havoc and mayhem and generally messiness as always.  I got thinking about one-layer cards and just went from there!

I took this sweet bear from RRD's Getting Grizzly and made him the center of my stenciled background.  I stamped him onto my card with Memento ink, colored him with copic markers (greys for him and blue for the snow) and then masked him and the sentiment with a bit of scrap I had cut using my oval cutter.

I laid my stencil over the card and started sponging with a light blue distress ink. I added smaller blotches of medium blue and finally little splotches of dark blue until I achieved the look I liked. Voila!  One-layer Christmas card!

Here's the whole thing!

A Little Christmas

So first off...sorry for the long pause between posts.  My camera died a sudden and unexpected death. I am working on resurrecting it or finding a new one.  It has taken me a bit to feel comfortable using my iPhone to show off my artwork...yup, now I know for sure...I am getting wicked old.  My daughter laughed at me and said, "Um, why didn't you do that three weeks ago?"  Yup....

So, I was messing around with my stencil collection yesterday and this is one of the cards that resulted.  I thought it was a fun treatment for a one-layer card which usually include more white space.  Obviously, I wanted a totally cute focal image so I grabbed the Precious Pair from Christmas Cheer and started working!

I stamped them first and then masked them off to create the blocked sections for the stencil patterns. In hindsight, I should have colored these lovely ladies BEFORE masking, but I was excited to be back and getting inky!

The stencils I used are mini-sized, about 4"x4". I got them at Michael's one day during a fab sale.  Most were only a dollar or two.  I love reuseable tools!  Once, I blocked off the squares, I spinged on a base layer of ink with my lightest ink and then used the stencil with a ink dauber and a darker hued ink.  I liked it!
