Banded Holly

I finally had time to play with some of the techniques in the latest Technique Junkies newsletter.  I decided to try out Overstamped Bands.

I used my new Holly stamp from RRD's Christmas Cheer half plate along with three colors of Distress Ink.  I love the way it came out.  The sentiment also came from the Christmas Cheer plate.

Don't miss out on the introductory price for this plate.  It's on sale now for $10.00 (reg. $15.00).  We've also got some other fabulous deals on our Specials page at the RRD website.

Best Teacher

Around this time of year, loads of students go looking for that special something to give to the teachers that make such a difference to them.  My daughter is among them.  We've been searching high and low for just the right gifts to make this season special and to show her appreciation to her fabulous teachers.

The only part that wasn't hard was coming up with cards to go with the gifts.  This year, my Best Teacher set from S.W.A.L.K. will be getting a workout.  This card is one of a set I made, each a little different.

Stamps: Best Teacher (S.W.A.L.K.  - now available at Rogue Redhead Designs)

I made the card nice and big so the Roguette had plenty of room to write inside.  For the background panel, I used some  BasicGrey paper with loads of letters and numbers on it that I had stashed away.  The apple strip came from another piece of designer scrap.  I thought it was a nice way to tie in the apple that the teacher was holding.

While these stamps come pre-mounted on cling foam, I did take my scissors and cut apart the teacher and student so that I could have a bit more versatility.

I am entering this card into the following fab challenges:

Divas by Design - Anything Goes

The Stamping Chef - Anything Goes

In Love with S.W.A.L.K.

Romantic notes anyone? Love this cute little couple smooching! For this card, I thought I would use a mostly monochromatic color palette and I really like how it turned out!

I kept the same subtle colors going when I chose the designer paper for the background panel. Loved how it had little pops of color but was not overwhelming.  These two were really fun to color!  I think I am getting better at hair but it still seems to elude me :)

Along with some great images from S.W.A.L.K. and Barkley, Rogue Redhead Designs has also added a Beatrix Potter set from Frederick Warne and Company called "A Winter's Tale".

These little bunnies bring back so many lovely childhood memories.  Beatrix Potter was this book lover's first favorite author!

These beautifully reproduced images are a joy to color and this fabulous winter-themed cling-mounted set has great focal images, sentiments and snowflake elements to create spectacular vintage cards and projects.

Aren't these the sweetest little critters?  I just cannot get enough of these baby bunnies! You'll be seeing more of them over the next few days!

S.W.A.L.K. at RRD

While continuing to create our own unique unmounted vintage-inspired stamp plates, Rogue Redhead is expanding to include some select contemporary images from other manufacturers.  One of the new lines that RRD will be carrying includes S.W.A.L.K. characters by Santoro.

These sets are small but mighty.  Each one comes with a sweet central image and corresponding sentiment along with little embellishments to make your creation more individual.  I love the way a different color scheme and slightly different layout can create a whole new look.

You can see what I mean with the Blooming Wonderful set!

Blooming Wonderful - Price US $9.95

I created one card with a Christmassy color palette and designer paper for a different kind of holiday card for a beloved friend.  Here's how it came out!  Isn't she darling?

Stamps: Blooming Wonderful set (S.W.A.L.K.) - Now at RRD!

With a little change in color and a different layout, this little sweetie comes to life on a fabulous all-occasion card designed for one of those "just because" moments.

New Vintrigue Column on UPA

As you all know Halloween is one of my most favorite holidays of all time!  This year in honor of the spooky special day, I created some new decor items.

You can find out more about what I did and see way more pics on Unruly PaperArts in my October Vintrigue column - Getting Creepy with Collage.

Halloween Collage

Each year, I try to put together something new for my collection of Halloween decor. This year, I managed 3 pieces - all with collage.

The first piece I created from a wooden shadow box. I started by painting the whole thing a nice Autumn copper. I added a watercolored background which was stamped with Halloween images from Oxford Impressions. I added a strip of Halloween designer paper. From there I added some eerie elements including a skeleton and spider butterfly. The collage images were cut out and mounted on cardstock and then arranged so that they could stand on their own and give some depth. Afterall, that's what shadow boxes are for, right? Finally, I added a white picket fence to hold in all the scary :)

For my other pieces, I started with pressed paper forms I found at the craft store - a dress form, a witch's hat and a skull. To see how I created these, check out my latest Vintrigue article on Unruly PaperArts.

Have a spookilicious Halloween!

Framed

The 28th Rebel Challenge is all about Diecuts - Rebel Challenge @28 DieCut Divas. My favorite diecuts are these elegant frames. What better to put into old looking frames besides old looking folks?

As usual these two old sweeties from Just Sayin' have a habit of cracking me up with their great expressions. I wanted to keep the whole card as simple as possible so I stayed with simple impressions highlighted with a little white colored pencil. For the back panels, I used two background stamps from Behind the Scenes and I added a strip of orange fabric tape for a little contrast and some fab texture.

St. Patrick's Day - Early or Late?

Sometimes the Emerald Isle just calls to you. I've had these diecuts hanging around for ages and decided to haul them out for the new DieCut Diva Rebel Challenge on RRD. I think Sally looks fabulous in Kelly Green, don't you?

Diecuts usually are part of really ornate cards so I decided to do something a little different and go for a clean and simple look.

Hope you have a day that is filled with the luck of the Irish!

Marie's Reading Room

Another sample for the Autumn Colors Rebel Challenge! This time I got a bit carried away playing with shapes. By adding some designer paper wallpaper to Marie's room, I ended up giving a touch of depth to her reading room! The rest of her circle is colored with copic markers.

Using the Colors of Autumn

Here's another sample for the Autumn Colors Rebel Challenge over at RRD!  I made use of some great designer paper for the background and colored in Clarisse with copic markers and set her in a nice matted frame.

Stamps: Clarisse and sentiment from Nature Notes (Rogue Redhead Designs)

I had a little fun with the sentiment, setting it into a semi-circle.  I really liked the effect of depth that it created.

Hoping your day has been filled with some amazing warmth and wonder!  I know I wanted to Carpe some of the great weather we had today!

Framing is Everything

Today, I wanted to try a little something different with my favorite focal image shape. I love ovals, but sometimes depending on the background, they just don't pack enough punch for me. Instead of tucking this lovely tulip into another oval, I decided to create a black block to highlight the (what I think are) fab colors in my background.

For this card, I pulled glossy paper through some soft misted distress inks and then added pounced alcohol ink around the edges.  I really love this effect as sometimes I find a whole polished stone background a bit overwhelming.

I added the silhouettte tulip from Nature Notes and then cropped my focal image into an oval.  My oval cutter is definitely an over-used tool but I love the shape...what can I say?

Stamp: Tulip from Nature Notes
I added a bit of fabric tape after setting my oval into a black rectangle. I wanted some feeling of openness so I used a simple white back panel trimmed in black...and yes, Miss Frugal here cut the rectangle out of the back panel.  The base is red to bring out the hints of red in the alcohol ink areas.

Haute Couture in Kraft

Sometimes, you can just let the paper do the work!  With Graphic 45 papers, that's always an option.  Love these fabulous fashion-filled designs in their simple tan and brown!

Of course, Dot took center stage even with all these lovely ladies! She's stamped on vanilla-colored cardstock and I used a partial oval mat to add her into the scene with all these other lovely fashionistas!

If you are getting that fashion feeling, why not join in with the Fashionista Rebel Challenge on RRD?

My Garden in Stripes

Another paint chip strip card.  This one a little more subdued than the others.  These are so much fun and so quick to put together.  The format really fits almost any subject, color scheme and designer paper.

I chose an old Basic Grey background paper for this card and I had just the right paint chip sample for it too!  I thought the paper and the colors had an earthy feel so I went with a nature-themed image.  This Lily of the Valley is one of my go-to stamps!

I Can Never Craft Uncaffeinated Again

So the other day when I was working on some new art, I was working in the middle of the night.  This is not at all unusual as I am a renowned insomniac.  My problem was that usually, I have a bit of caffeine to help me get through these restless times, but after just getting back from vacation for a few days I had neither Cola nor tea in the house...caffeinated beverages are almost as essential to my supply list as paper and ink!

I made two bad decisions.  The first was to try and save time and use my Making Memories paper trimmer to trim out some cardboard for a canvas I was working on.  Yeah....that didn't work.  So, new paper trimmer is on the way from Amazon.

My second indiscretion was a move made in haste.  I was so excited about how lovely my distress and alcohol ink background was turning out, I just couldn't wait to cut out my oval panel.  The problem...I never took the piece off my lovely Inkssentials Craft Sheet.  So now I have a craft sheet with a lovely oval cut into it.Brilliant!

I went  nice and Clean with this made-at-midnight card...I'd say simple too but there's way too much ink on this card for that :) I still think it qualifies as CAS though in that it finished with a nice clean layout.

I created this card by layering alcohol inks over smooshed distress ink.  I love the effect...too bad my camera isn't as great at capturing the fabby colors and intensity.  Picture butter yellow with some vibrant orange, copper and mustards.

Sail Away

Another day, wicked easy card.  I love this little lad from Beach Babes and I think he needs no embellishment, so this time I just stamped him clean and mean onto a paint chip sample.

As some of you know I have a weakness for messing with this diy detritus.  A while back, I did a little tutorial for Gingersnap Creations with paint chip scraplings.  Some of my scraplings were even featured in Craft Stamper.  This week, I also posted a set, of which this card is one, on Rogue Redhead Designs

Stamps: Beach Lad and Sentiment from Beach Babes (Rogue Redhead Designs)

I have entered this card into the following fabulous challenges:
