Block Collage and Nature Notes

Yesterday, the sun was so bright and warm I just had to play with a sunshine colored palette. Add to the scenerio that my trees are starting to turn already in my forest while my garden is struggling to make a mighty comeback that looks as if it will turn September into more of a summer scene than an autumn one.

At Technique Junkies, the weekly Try That Technique Challenge is asking us to use an old favorite of mine called Block Collage. It's a simple and quick way to make an impactful one-layer card! This is what I came up with:

Stamps: woman, silhouette flower, corner flourish and vines
from Nature Notes and rose and cosmos blossom from Floriculture
(Rogue Redhead Designs)

I have also entered this card in the following charming challenges:

Lawnscaping Challenge - Make Your Own Designer Paper with Stamps

Art Impressions - There's Only One Layer

There's not too much summer left now! Despite the September 21st date for Fall, I always count it from when my daughter goes back to school and she's back in class this week!

Rosy Christmas

I decided to try something a little crazy today. Not sure it completely worked, but that's what I love about stamping...you can always try.

Over at Jingle Belles, they have a fab bingo board of a challenge this week! I picked the row that was "stamping, flowers, tree" and an idea was born.

Stamps: rose from Floriculture plate, square from Bits and Pieces plate and star from Carnival Dreams plate (Rogue Redhead Designs)

Hope you have a jolly day!

Merry Mittens

After being away for a week, it was nice to sit down and do some stamping.  I am a bit behind on my Christmas cards which I try and start every year in July so I can be done by October.

To get some inspiration for a clean and fresh design, I went over to Freshly Made Sketches where they had this fab sketch.  Lots of room for interpretation.

I grabbed my Candy.Kisses set and got busy.  The paper is an old pattern from Daisy D's which looks like a cable sweater - totally cool!

Stamps: mittens and sentiment from Candy Kisses (Rogue Redhead Designs)
I am also entering this card into the following fab challenges:

Challenge Up Your Life - Christmas in Summer

Paper Crafting Journey - Anything Goes

Hope you have a warm and wonderful day!  And don't worry, there's still 4 months until Christmas...ACCK!

A Gentleman's Hello

I love the Old Gent from Just Sayin'. He always looks like he's about to say something.  Here he is in an easy paper pieced "just because" card. His coat. pants, shoes and hat are made from the same papers as the background of the card.

This card was made as a sample for the new Rebel Challenge over at RRD - Shape Up!  All my samples seem to go a little overboard on the circles.  I must be subconsciously replicating my state of mind - going around and around in circles.

Hope you have an amazing weekend!

Simply Floral

Keeping it simple today with a mostly black and white card! I masked a circle onto a white card and added some of the new Peacock Feathers Distress Ink. I kept everything else simple with the flower from RRD's Nature Notes collection and a sentiment from RRD's Bits and Pieces plate.

I like the black and white with the slight pop of color!  Hope you like it too!

Love is All A Round

Love is all a "round" with this sample for the Rogue Redhead Designs Shape Up Rebel Challenge. The idea is to use at least one square, one rectangle and one circle. I obviously did more than one of each!

Stamps : Masquerade couple from Carnival Dreams plate and
Love You from Snow Hugs plate (Rogue Redhead Designs)

I love this sweet couple and I never get tired of playing with how to color them!  This time I concentrated more of the framing, aligning the edge of the circles mattes instead of centering everything.

Don't forget that you can get some great deals during the  RRD Summer Sunsational Sale

Happy Birthday Warhol

Today, we have a new challenge on Rogue Redhead Designs!  Our latest Rebel Challenge - Shape Up! - dares you to use at least 1 each of a square, a circle and a rectangle on your card somehow.  You can create the shapes with punches, paper or ink.

I decided to use this opportunity to make a card for my sister's upcoming birthday.  I love doing "warhol" cards so I went with that idea and came up with this simple card.

Stamps: woman and sentiment from Nature Notes plate (Rogue Redhead Designs)
Paper: Daisy D
Cardstock: So Saffron, More Mustard, Pumpkin Pie and Espresso (Stampin Up)
Tools: 1.25" square punch; circle cutter
Technique: Warhol (Technique Junkies)

Hope you have a fabulous day!

Divine Gypsy Heart

The Simon Says Challenge this week is to "Paint It Up" and I did!  I haven't done a canvas in ages.  This one has been in creation mode on and off for a few weeks and then it all seemed to come together.

My base consists of a mix of of teal and blue lumiere pearlescent paints, with some lovely text pages and natural papers layered on and a final top paint layer of copper and gold lumiere paints.  I toned down the text pages with some white acrylic paint and aged them with some soft Ranger Antique Linen Distress Ink although that is mostly obscured in the final product.

I love the winsome and beautiful faces of these "gypsy" women.  I knew what I wanted the title to be from the beginning but could not decide on how I wanted to add it and then I came across some Scrabble tiles that seemed perfect with the tones of the piece.

Hope your gypsy heart imbues your art this week!

Art Journaling, Maybe?

I started this page a couple of weeks ago by creating a simple ink wash over the page in three colors. I added some salt over the wet page to add some extra mottling.

Today, I decided to finish it. Of course, I have very little experience with art journaling...okay, none! I decided to go a bit Rogue with it and just do whatever came to mind. Once I got the main thought, the rest came somewhat easily...not very prettily but easily.

Stamps: Marie, books, and Read in Order to Live sentiment from Relish Reading plate; decorative flourish and I am the Master of my Fate sentiment from Nature Notes plate; flower from Just Sayin' collection and star from Carnival Dreams set (Rogue Redhead Design); Collage Images: Enchanted Mercantile

I am hoping to get better at this format but you have to start somewhere right?  It was really fun to create the background and then mess it up completely although I am fairly sure that was just my process and not how it's supposed to be done.

I am entering this page into the following fabulous challenges:

Joanna Sheen Challenge - Try Something New (this is my first art journal attempt)

CR84N Color Challenge - Grape, Blue and Green

Now, if you want to find out more about Art Journaling and see some great articles on journaling in generalwith much better art than mine, check out this month's Unruly PaperArts - Journal It!

Freshly Made with Nature Notes

I saw the new Freshly Made sketch and I shook my head...nope, I have never worked out the correct layers for my Big Shot and consequently don't have any fab dies.  I always take a look at the DT samples as they are always inspiring and lo and behold there was one without a fancy die cut and I got a great idea about how I would approach this sketch.

I grabbed my new Nature Notes plate and set to work!

Here's the sketch:
Here's what I did with it:

Stamps: Treescape and sentiment from Nature Notes (Rogue Redhead Designs)

I've also entered this card into the following fab challenges:

Simply Create Too - Anything Goes

Papercrafting Journey - Anything Goes

Belli Challenge - Vacation / Travel - cuz this is the type of view I like when I go on vacation!

Have a fabulous weekend!  I hope you get to spend a few minutes with your delicious solitude!
