Christmas Couple

It's the dog days of July and it's beyond hot, so  I am looking for some cool Yule to make me think of more temperature-friendly climes and more body-friendly attire.  Yup, I said it!  I want my jeans back.  No they are not "mom jeans" but they at least hid a multitude of over-40-related side effects.

At the fabulous and inspiring Jingle Belles Challenge, they are asking for cards that are Green OR Red!  I really enjoy this challenge and its fun prompts.  They really help me get ahead on my holiday cards!  If you haven't been over there, do check them out!

I opted for the Green as, like I said, I was looking for something cool and I just can't deal with reds when it's over 90F.

I stamped the cuddling couple from Snow Hugs and paper pieced them with a variety of soft green designer papers, mostly ginghams because that was the mood I was in.  I used a little leftover Green Ruche (from Paper Temptress) for the man's cuffs and brim of his hat.  I love it's great texture.

Here's the final card:

I am also entering this card into the following awesome challenges:

Because She's a Cat

Whenever I ask my husband why our cat does what she does, he invariably answers "because she's a cat".

Why does she pretend that she is stone deaf when I try and get her off the table, but jumps when a leaf hits the ground outside the closed door?  Because she's a cat.
Why does she stick her entire head into my tea cup while I am still drinking it
?  Because she's a cat.
What possible reason could she have for putting every coin on my dresser onto the floor 3 am?  She's a cat!
Why would she lick the electrical outlet?  Cat.
Did she just attack that plastic bag?  CAT!

Guess cats don't really need reasons. Mine is content to "be".   My poor well-behaved dog can't believe she does what she does either so that's some comfort.

Why did I put this furry animal at the center of this card?  Because she's a cat!

I used the excellent sketch over at Sweet Stop for this cat-themed card.

I have been doing a series of orange cats so I decided to keep going with that color scheme!  The Crafty Pad is having a Paper Piecing Challenge, so that came into play as well!  The Pink Elephant is doing "Orange" so I will be entering this card in that one as well!

Here's the finished card:

Because of this look on my dear sweet darling's face, I decided it was time to take the "Quiz" again.

Seeing Triple

Two Clean and Simple Challenge blogs are asking for things in threes!  How could I resist getting in triple trouble with my ink?  I figured my RRD Bits and Pieces set would be a great place to start with its easy shapes and tons of sentiments.

My first card used the lovely layout from Clean and Simple Stamping which features 3 elements and a sentiment.  I kept it one-layer so that it would also work with Less is More's One Layer 3 Challenge.  I started by stamping 3 circles in a vertical line using the circle from Bits and Pieces.  I then stamped the vintage sun from Floriculture over top of the circles.  I added the "Hello" and the card was complete!  Okay, not completely.  I also trimmed the top and bottom of the card so that the white space seemed even more expansive horizontally enhancing the central pillar as a focal point.

I have also entered this challenge in the Joanna Sheen Going Around in Circles Challenge.

My second card also used the Less is More Challenge as its inspiration.  Here I moved to the Bits and Pieces solid square and stamped turquoise, yellow and lilac blocks.  Onto these squares, I stamped some of the elements from the RRD Beach Babes set, letting the various bits stamp a little outside each "box".

I finished by adding the "Oceans of Love" sentiment, also from Beach Babes, three times across from each block of color.

Here's the whole card:

I really like how this turned out.  I have to admit that I was inspired by the Spring Edition Distress Ink colors although in the end I decided to use dye ink.

I have also entered this card into the following charming challenges:

Wishing you a beautiful summer day!  While my body will be in a desk chair, my sunny thoughts will be at the beach!

Vintage Love

Today, I was inspired by the great sketch at Freshly Made Sketches.  I am only hoping that it it is "clean" enough as I could not resist adding the flower and a couple of faux photo corners.  It is simple and that's something for me :)

As regular readers know, I get a total kick out of the elderly couple from RRD's Just Sayin' collection.  There is just something about their expression that makes me smile and gives me that warm-fuzzy-ahhhh feeling. That...and her hair always cracks me up.

All the designer paper in this card is from my scrap basket, which mercifully is getting emptier as time goes on.  I have not cut a new piece of designer paper in months and yet I still have quite the stash left.

I am getting better about using up my scrap cardstock too but that just seems harder for me.  I grabbed this delicious deep red card from my stack of "half sheets" that I keep front and center on my desk.  I stamped it with coordinating ink using two different simple RRD backgrounds - Just Sayin's Netted background and Getting Grizzly's Honeycomb - just to add a little visual interest. I also stamped the couple using the same coordinating ink.

Here's the result:

RC013: Distressed Greens

We've got a new Rebel Challenge for you on RRD - Distressed Greens! Rogue Redhead Designs is challenging players to create something using green as the color palette AND add some type of distressing.

For this card, I wanted to make my focal point this lovely sentiment from Victor Hugo from RRD's Floriculture plate. I used ink to distress the quote and the panel of designer paper that I used as a backdrop. I finished by creating a frame for my quote using a Technique Junkies technique called torn frames. I love the way it makes quotes pop!

Joyous July

It's as good as time as any to start on my pile of Christmas cards!

I took my inspiration for the layout from the fab sketch at 52 {Christmas} Card Throwdown.  My palette came from the fabulous Daring Cardmaker's July Color Combo.  With Amusing Challenges also doing a Christmas in July, my hoho mojo was complete!

I wanted to do a little something different with this sweetie and her snowman buddy, so I stamped them on craft, colored them and added white cardstock snow drifts behind them.

Stamps: girl and snowman, sentiments from Candy Kisses (Rogue Redhead Designs)

Here's to cool Yule thoughts in the summer sun!

Razzle Dazzle

The Sweet Stop has such fab sketches!  I just had to play this one!  I grabbed my RRD stamps and got to work!

I was also inspired by the color combo at Dynamic Duos which dared us to combine Rich Razzleberry and Old Olive.  I am old friends with Old Olive, one of my fav Stampin' Up shades, but I hadn't played around too much with Razzleberry yet so this was indeed a challenge!

I finally decided on the sweet elderly couple from Just Sayin' and the Love You from Snow Hugs paired with the simple star from Carnival Dreams

Hope you get a day when you can play with something new too!

Monochrome Waver

Here's a quick little card with a little distressing!  The layout is from the most recent Freshly Made Sketch!  The little girl is from the RRD Beach Babes plate.

I layered a bunch of fab designer papers under my little girl who I masked and distressed over. The two stripes are some fun fibres I had in my ribbon box.

Don't forget to check out the massive sale at RRD!  Every stamp plate is on sale with even more savings with our newest bundle specials!

Hope you have a beautiful day!

Happy Fourth!

Gotta love holidays for inspiration!  I got busy with some cards inspired by the fabulous Fourth today!

I started with a spirited "hello" card with a nice patriotic color palette.  This old woman from RRD's  Just Sayin' always cracks me up and I could not resist using her for this card!  The sentiment is from the RRD Bits and Pieces plate.  I loved these two papers together!  Very festive!

I have entered this card into the following challenges:

Creatalicious Challenges - Anything Goes

Unique Crafters Challenge - Patriotic

My second card also uses red, white and blue as it's palette and a playful couple dreaming the American dream!  Dared to add celestial bodies and some shine over at Just Us Girls with their Wild Card - Stars and Sparkle Challenge, I surrounded the couple from RRD's Carnival Dreams with shining stars, from the same set, outlined with some gold Stickles for a bit of sparkle!

They turned out dreamy! I added the same fun red, white and blue flower paper from the last card as a backdrop.  It  always reminds me of fireworks!.  Some shiny gold ribbon finished off this sparkly card!

I am also entering this card into the following challenges:

Papertake Weekly Challenge - Anything Goes (used glitter outline)

Party Time Tuesday - Be Patriotic (USA)

Have a Happy July 4th to all my friends here in the USA!  Happy Wednesday to all my other stamp pals across the globe!
