WOYWW 160: A Bit of Everything

I finally have something on my workdesk...okay maybe a lot of somethings. I haven't finished everything but I am hopeful I'll get at least one of the two canvases completed over the weekend.  They are hiding under some of that mess...maybe you can spot them :)

As summer is especially busy, all I got completed finished was a couple of Clean and Simple cards.  I made this one with a honeycomb background, a simple sentiment and a bee from the new RRD Getting Grizzly plate.

I hope to have a lot more FINISHED things ready for next WOYWW!  I can't wait to check out this week's participants for WOYWW 160!

Hope your Wednesday went well!

Pretty Poppy

A while back I swapped some images with some fellow stampers and I am still making things with all the great images I received. I made this card a few weeks back but forgot to blog it...Spring was a bit of a flurry of chaos and fun times for me.

For this pretty little image, I decided to create an alcohol ink background.  I started with a simple polished stone look and then dropped many spots of blender solution on it.  When everything had dried, I overstamped the Almanac page from Relish Reading over the piece.  It gave a nice finish but the card was still missing something so I added some thread around the main image.

Stamps: poppy (unknown); Almanac page from Relish Reading plate (Rogue Redhead Designs)

Happy Furry Father's Day

In honor of Father's Day, I decided to get grizzly again with a little marker watercolor. I love this technique, but have to admit sometimes I get lazy about mixing two colors. This time, I did it by the book!

I used my new bears from the RRD Getting Grizzly plate for the bears and the sentiment from the Bits and Pieces collection also from Rogue Redhead Designs. I colored the sky as well but it is such a subtle blue that it did not translate in my picture. I did really love how the various colors had blended when it finally dried. I turned out just like I like it - nice and simple!

A Bear of a Dad's Day Card

Wow! Father's Day really snuck up on me this year!  I got busy today making my cards for friends, family and my dear husband.  I thought the Getting Grizzly plate might make some great Dad's Day cards.

For the design of this one, I took inspiration from the weekly challenge on the StampersCorner Yahoo Group.

The color came to me when I saw the pretty day outside. I love yellow. It can work for such a wide variety of cards - masculine or feminine. I turned to my scrap basket, which magically does not seem to be getting any emptier, for the pretty layered papers. The ribbon is a fav of mine from PaperTemptress. She has some great and unique ribbons that really add flair.

Once I had chosen the colors and layout, I colored up this little bear on some X-Press IT paper. I got the tip on this lovely smooth paper during my copic certification class.

Grizzly Spotlight

I love using spotlight techniques. This is one of my favorites - leaving a simple image and creating a spotlight of color with a shape or panel. This group of bears from RRD's new Getting Grizzly plate really lent itself to an easy circle spotlight.

After I had stamped the full bear image onto the craft paper, I stamped it again onto a bit of white scrap. I colored the bears and then took a circle punch and picked out a section that I liked!

Quick Flower Cards

I got a couple minutes today to breathe so I went up to my craft room - needless to say it was a total mess! While clearing a space to work, I found another couple of images I had colored up awhile ago.

I just got back from taking a Copic Certification class with Marianne Walker (too cool, right?), so now I realize I hadn't a clue when I colored these up but I still like them.  I gave them the same treatment as the ones I did two weeks ago - just a simple mat and all the focus on the flowers!

Stamp: The Stamp Man

Stamp: unknown - got it in an image swap

Hoping to get out in the garden if it ever stops raining!

Fairy Lights

Sometimes, you just need a little magic in your day! Today's creation comes from an old background I made using reinkers and watercolor paper. I stamped a fairy from Curious by Design over that background and matted the whole thing with black.  The image is so striking, I thought I would let it stand on its own.  I just added some scraps from the background to create the final design.

I am entering this card into the following challenges:

Corrosive Challenge - Not Too Shabby (Shabby or Vintage Creations)

PanPastel - Something Vintage

Craftymess Challenge - Fantasy

Hope your day has some magic sprinkled in!

Behind the Garden Gate

Spring to me means getting back into the garden.  For the new Reader Art Quest - Spring Thing at Unruly PaperArts, I decided to create a garden scene.

This card may look simple straight on but I added a little something - layers!  Yup, I actually used pop-up dots.  I colored 3 versions of the same image in exactly the same way.

Stamp: Rare Image Rubber Stamps

I then cut out the boy from one of the extras and popped it up from the main card.  For my last layer, I cut out the watering can and one of the plants and added this last layer with more pop-up dots.

I really loved the extra dimensionalit!  That doesn't mean I'll be using pop-up dots any more than usual.  I am still on my original package which I bought in 2005 when I started stamping!

I am also entering this card into the following challenges:

Secret Crafter - Anything Goes

Crafting for all Seasons - Many Layers (5 in total - hope that's enough)

Have something that means "Spring" to you?  Craft that vision and enter it into the new Reader Art Quest - Spring Thing!  The top 5 entries will be showcased in our July issue of Unruly PaperArts!

Little Drops of Water

Today is my "Simple Set Saturday" post on RRD - my time to create a quick card set. I felt like using distress inks for my backdrop but my favorite distress background, dragging glossy cardstock through misted distress ink, does take some time to dry. Every time I try to speed up the process with a heat gun, I end up blowing the wet ink around in ways that I don't really like OR worse - fading everything out. Today, I cheated! I used a sponge roller to reduce the moisture on the cardstock and speed up the dry time.

I really liked the result especially when it became evident that the colors would be a bit more vivid than even letting it dry naturally.  Of course, I am still mastering my new camera but it is much brighter in real life - ya gotta believe me :)

The card below is one of the set of 4. I had a lot of fun with it and used 4 different types of embellishments on my set! Gotta keep it interesting, right?

Stamps: boy and sentiment from Beach Babes plate (Rogue Redhead Designs)

I used ribbon as my embellishment on this one as I thought the strips were reminiscent of the ribbon on the boy's hat!

Cosmos Buds

I had a bit of a play with some designs to day, creating a little bouquet of Cosmos blossoms. I started with the circle stamp from my RRD Floriculture set and a few different colors of Distress Ink to create a colorful background.  I overstamped the buds and sentiments from the same set with Jet Black StazOn, then restamped the buds onto water cardstock and paper pieced them onto the background.

If you want to see a couple more pretty bouquets, check out the new Best Bouquet Reader Art Quest on Unruly PaperArts! You have until June 25th to play!
