GC97: Geishas

Every month, Gingersnap Creations chooses a new theme for the month and a new technique focus. For April, the overarching theme is teh enchanting art of the Far East. Today, there's a new Chestnut Theme Challenge underway - Geishas! I have several stamps and collage images to fit this theme but I never seem to take them out. This challenge inspired me to play. I had so much fun with the GC Heart Coasters Art Exchange, I decided to use a coaster as my base and make a mini hanging. I used a piece of origami paper which I pleated to pay homage to the obi, the sash, that ties the kimono. I did not even attempt any of the intricate knots for which these beautiful pieces of clothing are known. Did you know that the Japanese character for geisha incorporates two kanji? It is made up of the kanji for art and the kanji for person or "doer". Isn't that fabulous? Perfect subject for some papercrafting creations! Geisha Dreams Collage Image: Enchanted Mercantile Paper: origami paper; Creative Imaginations Other: chipboard coaster with rounded corners (Blockheads Art Stamps) Tools: Crop-o-dile Embellishments: butterfly charm (Blue Moon Beads); twine I also created another simple card for the general theme of the Far East with this delicate cherry blossom image. Cheery Blossom Stamp: cherry blossom (Rubber Stampede) Paper: from Creative Imaginations Cardstock: Very Vanilla (Stampin Up) Ink: Tuxedo Black (Mement0); various copic markers Embellishments: 2 small pieces of coral ribbon (Papertrey) Want to see some more creations featuring these beautiful Japanese artisans? Check out the Challenge post on Gingersnap Creations and you'll see all the lovely and varied submissions by the always amazing Gingers.
