One Last Bit of Fun & Games

It's been a long, busy month, but I thought I would try to get one more challenge in. Inkurable Stampers is having a challenge to use playing cards in a creation...until midnight tonight!

Here's my last entry to a challenge in July:

Single Heart
Stamp: Need is Love (Hampton Art Stamps)
Paper: Elgin (7 Gypsies)
Collage Images: vintage valentine and vintage photo from my own collection
Cardstock: Creamy Caramel and Riding Hood Red (Stampin Up)
Ink: Black Tuxedo (Memento)
Tools: oval and oval scallop punch (Marvy)
Other: playing card; gesso; paintbrush; contact paper

Hope you had a fun-filled July with lots of games and play!!

Simply Sheep

Here's another great technique from the newest edition of the Technique Junkies newsletter. It's called Scene Silhouettes.

I figured that these wonderful "primitive" images from Cornish Heritage Farms wouls be perfect for this fun landscape technique. I added a bit of paper piecing to give some contrast to the sheep and make them pop from the background.

Simply Sheep
tree, sheep and sentiment from the Primitive Beginnings (Cornish Heritage Farms)
Cardstock: Blue Bayou, Basic Black, Whisper White & (Stampin Up)
Ink: Blue Bayou, Soft Sky, Wild Wasabi and Forest Foliage (Stampin Up); Tuxedo Black (Memento)
Tools: brayer

Over at Gingersnap Creations, we've made finding inspiration in August simple. Check out our Reasons for Stamping in August which just posted this morning.

Wading into the 21st Century!

For someone who is not technophobic at all, I seem to have been hiding under a rock networking-wise for the past few years. I guess I was wading in slowly...starting with this blog and moving outward into deeper waters.

With an attempt to become a little bit more current, Ill Tempered Ink is now on and Facebook. I think I am too verbose for Twitter so I won't be tweeting any time soon. Sorry. I'm still struggling with using "friend" as a verb...English Major...old habits die hard.

I could not believe how many people I already know on Facebook. Who knew? It's a popular place for stampers! I also found some amazing blogs on With their great search ability, it's easy to find blogs I love.

Okay, onto the card for today! I tried Cuttlebug Highlights again, a Technique Junkies technique, for the background. The image is colored in with copic markers.

Wading into Summer
Tilda in the Sea (Magnolia)

Well, off to explore more new venues!

Dog-gone Good Challenge!

As I went way out on a limb with the card I showed you this morning for the Gingersnap Creations Citrus Challenge, I decided to also show a card which was more "me" as well. Hey, it wouldn't be called a "challenge" if it didn't make you move out of your comfort zone, right?

I used a variation of one of my ultra-fav Technique Junkies techniques, Warhol. The fun citrus colors of the challenges were just yelling circus to me and from there somehow I got to dancing dogs and stars....must be Monday... my mind always wanders in weird directions on Mondays!

Dancing Dogs
Stamp: Toby Dancing (Alpha Stamps)
Cardstock: Yoyo Yellow, Only Orange, Basic Black and Whisper White (Stampin Up)
Ink: Tuxedo Black (Memento)
Copics: E00, E21, E31, E33, RV13, Y13, Y15, YG05, YG23, YR04, and YR07
Embellishments: 2 black brads
Tools: star punch (Creative Memories)

So if you are in the mood for some great summery colors, go check out the Citrus Color Challenge on Gingersnap Creations!!

Don't forget that every submission to a Gingersnap Creations current challenge in July 2009 gives you a chance to win their July Giveaway!

If you love what you see, why not try out for the first ever Gingersnap Creations Design Team!

A Juicy Challenge Which Lead to Another

I combined these fresh colors with the Inkurable Stampers Playing Card challenge and threw in a Technique Junkie technique called Depth of Field for a very different look for me.

Drink In Life
Stamp: citrus slice from Tart N Tangy (Stampin Up)
Cardstock: Gable Green and Whisper White (Stampin Up)
Ink: Only Orange, Yoyo Yellow and Gable Green (Stampin Up)
Embellishment: vintage advertisement playing card (no, I have no idea where I got this fun was ages ago)

My Mom even got in on the fun and using the same idea, technique and colors came up with a totally different card for the Citrus Color Challenge!

Juicy Friendship
Stamp: citrus slice from Tart N Tangy set and sentiment from Best Yet (Stampin Up)
Cardstock: Yoyo Yellow, Only Orange and Whisper White (Stampin Up)
Ink: Only Orange, Yoyo Yellow and Gable Green (Stampin Up); Tuxedo Black (Memento)

When life hands you lemon cardstock, make a challenge card!

ASCC #17: In the Pink

When Kimm unveiled her choices for this week's Artful Sentiments Copic Color Challenge, I felt totally in the pink!

This week's colors are R20 Blush, R83 Rose Mist and RV00 Water Lily. Aren't they soft and sweet? I only had R20 but I have an awfully lot of other pinks so I used them too!
One thing I adore about Kimm's challenges is that they are so easy to participate in! You can use 1, 2 or all 3 of the colors you suggest - OR whatever you have that is close! Gotta love it!

This card is dedicated to my friend, Ali, who always teases me about my earth tone color palette, my reluctance to use pop-up dots and my non-frilly self. This card is all soft and fluffy and is even 3-D! She is hosting the Spicy Supply Ribbon Challenge at Gingersnap Creations so I put in some ribbon too! Ali loves ribbon so much, she actually has a great article on how to use all those ribbon scraps!!

So here's one for you, Ali!

In the Pinks
Stamp: bunny (Sugar Nellie)
Paper: scraps from my scrap drawer
Cardstock: Pretty in Pink (what else), Ruby Red and Whisper White (Stampin Up)
Ink: Tuxedo Black (Memento)
Copics: E27, E31, E33, E37, R20, Rv11, RV13, Y13, Y15, YG13, YR04, YR09
Embellishments: pop-up dots, 2 pieces of 1/4" pink grosgrain ribbon

So put on those rose colored glasses and get creating! Go on over to Artful Sentiments to see what my fellow design members have created with these pretty pastels!

Ruby Slippers

I recently joined a new Yahoo Group called ArtyKards. I participated in one of their 1-for-1 swaps with a ruby theme.

Here's what I came up with for my swap partner:

There's No Place Like Home
Ruby Slippers (Visions of Ink)
Paper: red flowers (from an ancient Provocraft stack - I think)
Cardstock: Ruby Red and Whisper White (Stampin Up)
Ink: Tuxedo Black (Memento)
Copics: C1, E00, E11, E33, E37, R27, R29, R35, Y19, and YR00

Hope all your wishes come true today!

More Daughter Designs - this time it's for GC14

MKB decided to work on some Red, White and Blue cards for the Gingersnap Creations color challenge.

Here's what she came up with using some new Close to Your Heart stamps she got at the Hartford Rubber Stamp Expo this weekend.

And a nice Warhol card with Scotty dogs - stamps are from Inkadinkado.

I think I might have to retire and let her take over! Another triumph for the 9-year-old!

My Daughter's Entry to GC13: Tags

My daughter decided to do a card with a tag on the weekend for the Gingersnaps Challenge. I think it turned out wonderfully! I love her sense of color!

Stamps: cat (Stampsmith); thank you (unknown)
Cardstock: deep lilac (Paper Store); generic black
Ink: Peony (Colorbox); Tuxedo Black (Memento)
Embellishment: 2 shipping tags, 2 prima flowers, 1 black brad

I was extremely proud of her design! Can you believe she's only 9?

Have a fabulous stamp-filled day!

ASCC #16: Brunette Buddy

I was big on challenges this week but short on time! Yikes! Of course, I can always count on Kimm at Artful Sentiments to make everything come together with her fun Copic Color Challenges! Her wonderful color selection this week inspired me to new heights of challenge combinations!

Here's the Artful Sentiments Copic Challenge colors for this week:

YG67 Moss, B23 Phthalo Blue, and E47 Dark Brown

Remember you can use 1, 2 or all 3 of these wonderful colors or whatever you have that is close! I chose to use Moss and Phthalo Blue and the spirit of E47 dark brown. Then I saw that Copic Creations was doing a Brunette Hair Challenge, I decided to try my hand at that as well.

For the sketch, I used the sketch from the CPS Card Sketch this week!

I took the Secret Crafter's suggestion from last Saturday and used 3 pieces of ribbon on this card. I even decided to go green in another way and used my scraps instead of breaking out any new paper.

Here's the final product of all my efforts!

Brunette Buddy
Stamp: Country Garden (Sugar Nellie)
Paper: green mottled & green friendship paper - from the scrap drawer (unknown)
Cardstock: Brocade Blue and Whisper White (Stampin Up)
Ink: Tuxedo Black (Memento)
Copics: B21, B23, B24,E09, E11, E25, E27, E29, E33, YG11, YG13, YG63, YG67, YR00, YR04, YR07, YR18, YR23, YR24,
Embellishments: 2 prima flowers; 1 large antique copper brad; green polka dot 1/2" ribbon

So while I had almost no time for stamping, I put the time I had to good use! Have a fun and creative weekend!

Back to the Birds

Crafty Creations' challenge #23 for this week is "Birds". I have an entire aviary in my stamp drawer so I figured this would be the challenge for me! Over at Gingersnap Creations, we are featuring collage elements as our papercrafting focus so I have been sorting out my collage images and found this beautiful girl and bird from Inka Stamps.

I used a Technique Junkies technique called depth of field to do the background. I really love this simple but effective technique! Too fun!

Fantasizing Flight
Stamp: Doodle Bird (Alpha Stamps)
Collage Image: Bird girl (Inka Stamps)
Cardstock: Really Rusta and Whisper White (Stampin Up)
Ink: Really Rust, Pumpkin Pie and More Mustard (Stampin Up)

Why not dig out some of your collage images and assemble something fantastic today!

My Checkered Past

Some of my best memories of hanging out at my grandparents' house on hot summer days are founded in some great games of checkers with my grandfather. So when the new Chestnut Theme challenge at Gingersnap Creations focused on Fun & Games, I thought immediately of this old favorite.

I have never made a checker board before but I thought it might be a great tradition to start with my own daughter. My sweet 9-year-old was a great help in coming up with colors, picking the themes and even doing some of the painting. We look forward to using our checker board for many years.

If you would like to see how I made this board, visit my tutorial at Gingersnap Creations!

ASCC #15: American Apples

I decided to take a slightly different take on Color Copic Challenge at Artful Sentiments by Kimm this week! The colors were awesome and perfect for a great July 4th weekend!

This week's fun colors: R29, C0, B26

Instead of some of the tried and true icons of America, I went for a more subtle one - apples! I didn't go as far as to make the pie, but I think these apples look sensational and completely patriotic!

As American As
apples in bowl (Artful Stamper)
Paper: Liberty: Jackson Street (Scenic Route Paper)
Cardstock: Real Red and Whisper White (Stampin Up)
Ink: Tuxedo Black (Memento)
Copic Markers: R24, R29, B26, B32, YG13, YG23, YR23, YR24
Other: beige thread
Tools: corner punch

Getting Ready for the Big Parade!

I love the energy and fun of a great small town 4th of July parade! I decided that this cute majorette from Artistic Outpost's Cutie Pie plate would make a great tribute to all those fabulous parades down Main Street America!

Stamp: majorette from Cutie Pie plate (Artistic Outpost)
Paper: blue star paper (unknown - my scrap basket)

All Orange and White in the Mail Today!

Going to my mailbox today was a lot of fun! I had packages and cards and all sorts of fun stuff!

The first thing I opened was this this fabulous card by Kimm over at Artful Sentiments! Isn't she an amazing artist? I just love this card! She is just the sweetest person!!!! I am on the design team for her copic color challenges which really challenge me to use color in a fun way.

In keeping with the copic theme today, I also got a package from Dick Blick! Some new copics!! Whoohoo! I now have about 100 of the original style Copics! I am addicted!

My last package came Royal! It was filled with some great stamps I had ordered from Sugar Nellie! I had picked out these adorable designs because they are easy to color with guessed it...copics!

While I did have some time to mount these sweeties today, I didn't get to make any cards yet! You'll have to come back next week to see what I have made!

Happy Birthday Canada!

I may not be currently living in my "home and native land" anymore but I still give a big birthday cheer on July 1st! Happy Birthday, Canada! You look great for 142!

Instead of stamp art today, I thought I would share a few personal pictures taken in the land of my birth. I'm on holiday, eh?

From the majesty of the CN Tower

to the spectacular vintages and vistas of the Niagara on the Lake wine country

From the picturesque countryside of Prince Edward Island

and the Atlantic provinces

to the sense of fun in the sun found at the Toronto Zoo

there's no place like Canada!

See no moose, no hockey, no snow, and no maple leaves! There's a lot more to Canada than what you see on the souveniers!
